State law requires all candidates obtain a criminal background check in the school district(s) in which candidate is placed. The cost for the background check, per law, is the candidate's responsibility. The background check will consist of a State of Illinois conviction check and an FBI background check. Please note, the FBI background check includes arrests and convictions. Certain convictions will bar prospective candidates from pursuing teaching.
In addition, candidates will be checked against the statewide Sex Offender and Murder and Violent Offender Against Youth databases.
