Work Stoppages in Student Teaching/Field Placements

In the event of a work stoppage action at a district or school, educator licensure candidates shall not be required to participate in picketing or other work stoppage actions. University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign licensure candidates are to assume the role of neutral persons and to maintain an uninvolved status with respect to work stoppage.  Educator licensure candidates may, at their discretion, attend teachers' association meetings, faculty meetings, school board meetings, and other gatherings concerning the work stoppage in the role of interested observer. Educator licensure candidates who choose to participate shall do so as individuals and not as educator licensure candidates, and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign shall not be liable for any actions, or the consequences of any such action, by the individuals. An educator licensure candidate shall not take any action in violation of the National Labors Relations Act.

In the event the work stoppage continues for a week or more, the clinical experiences program coordinator may make arrangements for an extended student teaching time period, a new placement in another district, or an appropriate substitute experience.
