State Licensure Application Requirement for Speech Language Pathology Candidates

An additional licensure requirement for Speech Language Pathology candidates is the submission of an application to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) for temporary licensure in Speech Language Pathology.  According to Illinois School Code, 105 ILCS 5/14-1.09b (b), licensure with the Speech Language Pathology endorsement may only be issued to candidates who:

 (1) (C) “holds or has applied for a temporary license pursuant to Section 8.1 of the Illinois Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Practice Act.”

Proof of application for this license must be provided to CoTE to verify this requirement has been met.  Images of deposited checks (front and back sides) made out to IDFPR for the license application fee are acceptable evidence of submitted applications.

Note for those planning to practice in a state other than Illinois

Submission of the application for licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) must still be completed as a part of the fulfilment of the SLP program requirements.  Even if one plans to never work in Illinois, the completion of this requirement is important because obtaining school licensure in other states is most often based on the completion of an approved program (which includes the application to IDFPR).
