The Art Education program at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign prides itself in having faculty and candidates whose scholarly, creative, and pedagogical work has impact both within and beyond the classroom. Candidates are actively engaged in a wholistic approach to art education that emphasizes both the theoretical and the practical.
This program offers a unique multidisciplinary approach. This is a strong PK-12 art educator preparation program with robust relationships with other programs across the School of Art & Design. Situated within a major research University, candidates can connect with faculty and students in programs throughout campus.
This program promotes the belief that art and its education is a form of literacy that creates civic and intellectual emancipation. Faculty and candidates bring art education into various communities through long-standing partnerships with schools in the small urban community of Champaign-Urbana as well as in nearby rural school districts.
The program includes a minimum of 10 weeks of full-time pre-service clinical experience, or its equivalent. The program provides supervision and support services to the teacher.
