The Department of Special Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is consistently ranked by U.S. News and World Report as one of the Top 10 Special Education programs in the country.  In 2020, the program was ranked #9.

This part-time program is specifically designed for practicing Special Education teachers who are working with students with severe, multiple disabilities in the Chicago or Champaign-Urbana regions of the state.  Courses include numerous applied assignments that are implemented directly within each teacher’s own classroom.

Teachers take two courses per semester.  Courses are taught by University of Illinois faculty through a combination of online and face-to-face instruction.  All courses are taken as a cohort and scheduled conveniently after school hours.  The program leads to an endorsement in LBSII - Multiple Disabilities Specialist licensure and a Master of Education degree.
